ROCHESTER D&C: Eddie Gomez & Cesarius Alvim: Forever |
|
If memory serves, Eddie Gomez was the only bassist with whom the late, great Bill Evans ever recorded duets. Clearly, Evans appreciated the bassist’s amazing simpatico and sense of time with a pianist.
That tradition continues here with veteran Gomez and Brazilian-born pianist Alvim. The music is very
much in an Evans mode, though Gomez and Alvim are certainly artists with their own distinct and highly listenable musical personalities. The music includes Tin Pan Alley standards (“Spring Is Here,” “Invitation”), jazz classics (Wayne Shorter’s “Witch Hunt” and Luiz Eca’s “The Dolphin”),
and a handful of originals. — JACK GARNER |
